WKF ASIA & OCEANIA AMATEUR KICKBOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS (27th – 31st March, 2025)!
WOW, WHAT AN EVENT! Fighters from all over Asia and Oceania Continents were invited to compete for the prestigious award the “GOLD MEDAL“. Lot’s of fighters competed in all weight divisions, from Juniors, Cadets, Seniors, both Men and Women, to see “Who” was the “BEST” throughout all Asia and Oceania. There were a few Countries who couldn’t attend, as their religious beliefs couldn’t allow them – due to the “Fasting” and “Sacrifice” they made at the end of Ramadan Month. But those who did compete, they did not let their Countries and families down. Those that did attend, fought with great courage and energy. The great surprise was, Sri Lanka had so many great talented Kickboxers. It was amazing to see. They showed heart, courage, determination and the will to win. It was “Awesome” to see! WKF Sri Lanka Kickboxing Federation has a great future in Kickboxing and Combat Sports. NAWALAPITIYA INDOOR STADIUM was the place to be, and the local fighters did not disappoint.
WOW, WHAT A WKF ASIA OCEANIA KICKBOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT!
We started off with the first ever WKF Sri Lanka International Referees/Judges/Timekeepers Course, so that we have the “Best” International Officials in all Asia. We had 12 Officials from the WKF Sri Lanka Kickboxing Federation participate in the long 2 days Course, covering everything in Kickboxing, both Professional and Amateur Rules, in Muaythai, K1, Low-Kick and Full-Contact Ring Fighting, as well as Light-Contact, Semi-Contact, Kick-Light Kickboxing. All 12 participants in the Course participated with great enthusiasm, energy to gain knowledge for the future of Sri Lanka and all Asia in Kickboxing and Combat Sports. What came out of the 2 Day lengthy Course was 12 certified International Referees/Judges/Timekeepers, as well as having the “First” Female WKF Asia International Referee becoming qualified at the elite level. All participants graduated with flying colors, receiving the International “C Class” Certificate of Attainment.
“WELL DONE” WKF SRI LANKA KICKBOXING FEDERATION.
WINNERS of GOLD and SILVER Medals!
There were plenty of Winners and Runner-Ups at the WKF Asia Oceania Kickboxing Championships, held at the Nawalapitiya Indoor Stadium in Sri Lanka. There were some fights that went to the Judges decision. There were fights that were “Draw”, whilst there was plenty of Fight Action where there were some great Knock-Outs. Overall, the WKF Asia Oceania Kickboxing Championships was very much “Entertainment” at a high level, and those who attended, were entertained to the Max! Awesome!

This fight was without a doubt, one of the best fights of the whole Championships. Deshan Ekanayaka (Sri Lanka) 15 Wins, O Draws, 1 Loss, came into these WKF Asia Oceania Kickboxing Championships with many fights to his name, whereas Stephen Sciberras (Australia) only had 4 fights (4 Wins, O Draws, O Losses). From the start of Round 1, the experienced Sri Lankan Deshan came out of his Corner throwing everything at the Australian fighter, knocking Sciberras down once, then a 2nd time (Both Standing 8 Counts). Then with 15 seconds left in the 1st Round, Sciberras came back with a punch strong enough to knock an elephant down. The Sri Lankan Deshan could not get up in the Standing 8 Count, so the Sydney Australian fighter Stephen Sciberras was declared “WINNER”, winning the Gold Medal in a very tough fight. It was Sciberras’s toughest fight yet, and after the fight, he declared that Deshan Ekanayaka was the toughest fighter he has ever faced.
